Chamunda Bhagwati is one of the seven Matrikas, or mother goddesses, and is also known as a chief Yogini, part of a group of powerful tantric goddesses. The name Chamunda comes from the demons Chanda and Munda, whom the goddess defeated. The temple is said to be about 700 years old and features a large complex with a sacred tank called Ban Ganga, where many people come to take a holy dip. There is also a cave at the back of the temple with a Shiva lingam.
