Grave of Barog Travel Guide and Tourism in Barog, Himachal Pradesh

Grave of Barog in Barog Village, Solan District, Himachal Pradesh

The Grave of Barog in Barog Village, Solan District, Himachal Pradesh, is a historical site with a tragic tale. In the 20th century, Colonel Barog began constructing the narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla Railway tunnel. However, due to calculation errors, the tunnel's ends did not meet, leading to his disgrace and a fine from the British Government. Unable to bear the shame, Colonel Barog took his own life, and his grave is located near the incomplete tunnel, now named after him. Despite this tragedy, the tunnel was eventually completed by H.S. Harrington, becoming the longest on the Shimla-Kalka Railway route and a symbol of engineering achievement.

Today, the Grave of Barog is a reminder of the challenges faced during the railway's construction and a place of historical significance. The surrounding garden is well-maintained, offering a serene atmosphere for visitors. The Barog tunnel, now the longest of the operational tunnels on the railway, is a testament to the determination to overcome obstacles. Tourists visit this site to witness history and pay tribute to the dedication and sacrifices made during the railway's construction, making it an important stop on Shimla tour packages.
