To the enchanting Shiv Shakti Devi Temple, also known as the Chhatrari Devi Temple, nestled in the serene village of Chhatrari, just 33 kilometers from Bharmour in Himachal Pradesh. Standing at an elevation of 6,000 feet, this ancient temple, built by King Meru Verman in 650 AD, showcases the stunning hill-style architecture of the region. As you approach, you’ll be greeted by the temple's charming wooden carvings and a beautiful metallic idol of Devi, crafted by the master artist Gugga. The temple is simple yet striking, with walls made of stone and wood, and a sloping slate roof supported by richly carved wooden posts that form a pathway around the sacred sanctum. The atmosphere here is filled with a sense of peace and devotion, making it a truly special place to visit.

As you explore the temple, you will notice its outer walls adorned with beautiful frescoes depicting stories from ancient Hindu texts, the Puranas. Near the Shiv Shakti Devi Temple, you will also find the Gauri Shankra Temple, with its stone image dating back to the 10th century. Just a short walk up the mountain, discover the Charauta Temple, dedicated to Bhatod Nag, a deity believed to provide water to the villagers in exchange for a unique offering of goats every three years. In September, the village comes alive with the Chhatrari Fair, where the idol of Shiv Shakti Devi is bathed in holy water from the Manimahesh Lake, and the locals celebrate with vibrant masked dances and traditional music.
