Churdhar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Established on November 15, 1985, it covers an area of 56.16 square kilometers. The sanctuary is named after Churdhar Peak, which is the highest peak in the Sirmour district and the outer Himalayas, standing tall at 3,647 meters (11,965 feet). It is home to a variety of wildlife, including Himalayan black bears, barking deer, musk deer, langur monkeys, and leopards. The sanctuary is known for its stunning natural beauty, with alpine trees and green grassy pastures surrounding the Churdhar Peak.
The sanctuary holds religious significance as well, with a vivid statue of Lord Shiva located within its premises, making it a holy place known as Lord Shirgul Maharaj. Visitors to the sanctuary are awed by its beauty and the abundance of wildlife. From the top of Churdhar Peak, tourists can enjoy breathtaking views of the wild Gangetic plains and the Satluj River to the south, as well as Badrinath to the north. The sanctuary is also renowned for its herbal medicine trees and plants, such as Wild Himalayan Cherry, Aloe Vera, and Amaranthus spinosus, all of which possess amazing medicinal properties. The main trees in the sanctuary are oak and deodar. Tourists can often spot animals like musk deer, leopards, goral, wild boar, Asiatic black bear, and pika roaming freely in the sanctuary's green grassy pastures. For adventure enthusiasts, the sanctuary offers amazing trekking routes, including Nohra, Pulbahal, and Sarain, providing an opportunity to explore the untamed beauty of nature.
