The Koldam Hydropower Station, known as Koldam, is an embankment dam on the Sutlej River near Barmana, Himachal Pradesh 18 km from Bilaspur off the Chandigarh-Manali Highway (NH-21). Its main purpose is hydroelectric power generation, supporting an 800 MW power station. The project was first conceived in the mid-1960s, with construction starting in 2004 and impounding of the reservoir beginning in December 2013. Despite delays due to geological issues and environmental concerns, the 4x200 MW (800 MW) hydropower plant was fully commissioned in June 2015, making it a significant engineering marvel in the region. The dam is surrounded by natural beauty, making it a popular spot for picnickers and engineering enthusiasts alike.
