The Lakshana Devi Temple is located in Bharmour, Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh and is a historic Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Durga, known here as Mahishasura-mardini, the slayer of the buffalo demon. Built in the second half of the 7th century, this temple is one of the oldest wooden temples still standing in India. The temple is part of the ancient capital of Bharmour, also known historically as Bharmaur, Barmawar, Brahmor, or Brahmapura. Over the centuries, the temple's roof and walls have been repaired, but the intricate wooden carvings and the brass statue of the goddess inside have been preserved, showcasing the artistic excellence of the late Gupta period.
