Lhalung Monastery, also known as the Sarkhang or Golden Temple, is a historic Buddhist monastery in Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was founded in the late 10th century CE by Rinchen Zangpo, a great Tibetan Buddhist translator and the king of the western Himalayan Kingdom of Guge. The name "Lhalung" means 'land of the gods', and it is believed that the Lhalung Devta, the head of all the deities in the valley, emerges from the Tangmar mountain beyond the village. The monastery is surrounded by stunning landscapes, with the Tangmar mountains on one side and the Lingti river on the other.
