Visiting this sacred place offers a deep insight into the traditions and culture of Chamba.
The temple's foundation is rooted in a legend of sacrifice. King Sahil Varman, faced with a severe drought, sought ways to please the gods to bring rain. Advised by Brahmins and religious advisors, he was told to sacrifice either his son or his wife. Overwhelmed with grief, he chose to sacrifice his son, but Queen Sui could not bear to see her son die. She sacrificed herself instead, and soon after, water began to flow in the village, ending the drought. The temple, constructed on Shah Madar Hill, consists of three parts: the main temple, a passage, and the memorial of Queen Sui. It is a place of worship and reflection, offering a glimpse into the history and beliefs of the region. Read more on Sui Mata Temple in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.
